What is a Personal CPI?
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the average change in prices over time for a fixed basket of goods and services. But every household spends differently. Our Personal CPI Calculator re-weights official CPI data based on your actual spending patterns, giving you a more accurate picture of how inflation affects your budget.
Data Sources
We use official inflation data from national statistical sources: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for the United States, Office for National Statistics for the United Kingdom, Statistics Canada for Canada, and Eurostat HICP for the Eurozone aggregate plus supported European countries.
Methodology
When you enter your spending weights, we calculate a weighted average of the CPI component changes for your selected categories and geography. This produces a personal inflation rate that reflects your actual cost-of-living changes, rather than the headline inflation number for the average household.
Limitations
This calculator provides estimates based on published CPI data. It does not account for individual shopping habits, brand preferences, or quality changes within categories. Coverage and category detail vary by market and depend on what each official data source publishes.
